round one - killers

blank state round one

[At some point during the night, you awaken.

Whatever unfortunate soul had been residing in this body is no longer conscious. You're in control now - a malicious spirit who preys on people's guilt, using it as a doorway into their minds. It doesn't matter whether their guilt is justified or not; as long as they carry it, they leave themselves open to your possession.

Fortunately for them, and unfortunately for you, your power is still quite weak. You can only control them for a certain amount of time at night; in the morning, they will wake up with no memories of your presence whatsoever. Luckily, a few hours is all you need to begin setting up what will hopefully be a permanent occupation of this body.

After all, you and seven others are the only people who know the secret behind this place: everyone here, back in their own world, is either dead or about to die.

However, there's still a chance that a few of you may be able to survive. While the cat isn't going to bother saving nearly thirty people from death, if there were a great deal less...well, it might be more open to that suggestion. But in order for that to happen, you and your fellow spirits must prove that you deserve to live more than the rest of the people here. If you manage to outnumber the innocents, you'll be able to completely rewrite the person you're currently possessing and take their place in their world.

Of course, with the cat in charge of which cases everyone will be reviewing, this may prove harder than you think....

As you leave your bedroom and enter the hallway, you'll find a black door that wasn't there before during the day. The door opens into a darkened room, where you can meet the other spirits and discuss who to kill.]

(OOC: Please read this page to find out how this will work!)

[ There's a tall, tattooed man here- someone that hasn't been seen in this place before. But he doesn't look lost, or disoriented. ]

So that dog hasn't figured it out yet. In any case, I will be using this form when possible.

[Klavier stares at the man in confusion when he walks in, but then bursts out into delighted laughter at his comment.]

And here I was pitying whoever was unlucky enough to possess the dog! It seems as though you're full of surprises.

[ He crosses his arms, leaning back against the wall. ]

This form has plenty of acceptable power. I would not call that unlucky.

Ja, and I have a feeling the people here won't be as eager to sentence an adorable little puppy to death. [He cocks his head.] I have to admit I'm curious though - what does a dog, even a robot one, have to feel guilty about? Chased the wrong cat, that sort of thing?

[ He smiles, looking kind of amused. ]

The guilt is incredibly strong. It wants to be human. [ He waves a hand. ] It just wants to be loved. It's some sort of... Hmm. How to describe it...? A protective entity. It feels like it's failed its protectee...

How sad for it. [Klavier's expression goes amused as well.] Though it looks like it got its wish. At least, it's displaying the very human tendency to feel guilt over the most ridiculous things. And it can go to the grave knowing that you're going to love taking over its life.

That's right. There's no more need for it to suffer. [ Looking thoughtful. ] What is the story behind the rockstar?
courthouserock: (chuckle)

[personal profile] courthouserock 2014-03-23 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[A cold chuckle.] His brother is a psychopath and used him as a pawn to destroy an innocent man's career. He believes that if he had spoken up about his doubts sooner, he could have stopped his brother from killing more people to prevent his dirty little secret from getting out.

[He tosses his hair back disdainfully.] Not very bright for a prosecutor, but then again that works out splendidly for me. I think I'm going to enjoy being famous and wealthy beyond measure.

There is plenty to feed on from that. I'd never have guessed. What a sad story. [ Doesn't look too sympathetic. ]

[Kaoru doesn't burst into laughter, but he sure looks like he wants to... he politely covers his mouth instead, though.]

I can't say it suits you any more than the dog.

[personal profile] reify 2014-03-23 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I have to agree. But there is so much guilt to feed on with this one that I hardly mind.

[ Looking at Kaoru carefully. ]

The conversation these two had... before. Yours looks completely human. Is it?
souredsweet: breadcrusts (sunshine)

[personal profile] souredsweet 2014-03-23 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's good fortune. This one has strange guilt... I'm a little surprised that yours has so much, though! [the most guilty dog, he can hardly believe it...

at the question, Kaoru shakes his head.]
Not at all. I'm still getting the hang of it, but... [a look of concentration, and Kaoru's distinctly less human features appear.] A demon. It looks like I had some good fortune, too.

[ They really had all lucked out. ]

That is rather lucky. What was it you mentioned about his guilt, though?
souredsweet: breadcrusts (sang a song that i didn't like)

[personal profile] souredsweet 2014-03-23 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
He doesn't feel it right, so it's bizarre... Instead of feeling guilty about the blood he has shed, he feels guilt over not shedding it sooner! It's a little sad, since he seems to think things would have turned out better for himself and his sister otherwise... [which he says in the same flippant way a person might chat about what they had for breakfast, complete with a dismissive wave. he sure doesn't care as long as he gets to keep the body.]

What about yours? I'm curious.
reify: ( rhyme ) (come lay me low and love me)

[personal profile] reify 2014-03-23 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that a certain sort of powerful guilt, though... [ Guilt doesn't always have to be truly remorseful, after all.

And then, thinking it over. ]

This one started its existence as another person... a child that was bred with psychic ability so overwhelming that in order to protect its mind, it shattered into three pieces. This creature... Ren. It is one of those fragments. It seems to have developed its own will and become its own entity. However... he has failed to protect the original self, and his feelings seem less than noble. There is significant guilt here...
souredsweet: breadcrusts (unmoving)

[personal profile] souredsweet 2014-03-23 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's enough to feed off of, anyway. I don't mind it even if it's strange. [he smiles, bright and amiable despite the topic.]

Oh! That kind of guilt sounds exciting. You must really be enjoying yourself... What an interesting group of people we have here.

...You're the dog?

[He lets out a low, breathy laugh. This was certainly unusual.]

Who would have known! But it's a good thing... You would have been useless as anything but bait if you couldn't change shape like that.

It seems that I can access both forms. It will become quite useful in the future, I imagine. And for throwing off suspicion... there's nothing better.

Kyahaha! Of course nobody would expect that cute dog to be one of us. It really is perfect!

[He applauds Ren on that much. If only he could do the same! But his host looks plenty capable of what they plan to do.]
