[Once again, you awaken in your host's body at some point during the night. While the innocents in your room continue sleeping deeply, you head out into the hallway and enter the darkened room, where your fellow spirits are already gathering.

It hasn't been the best week for you all. Only three of you enter the room tonight, the other two having been killed off. Still, there's no reason to give up hope yet. They were weak. Perhaps the next time someone tries to attack one of you, the tables will be turned - especially now that you know the rewards targeting someone vulnerable can grant you.

When you're ready, the boxes and lighter in the center of the room await. Who will be the next victim?]

[As you consider who to kill, all of you will be able to sense a strange presence surrounding some of the innocents here. The cat has begun to make its move. Every week, it will grant protection to the people it finds most useful or active in solving the cases. You can immediately detect who they are - if you try to kill someone under the cat's protection, you may find your case to be much easier to solve.

However, everything in this place must come at a price. For every person the cat grants protection to, it takes away from someone else. You know these names as well - if you kill someone who's been left vulnerable, you'll become a lot stronger should they fail to execute you.]

[Within the room lies twenty sealed boxes, each one labeled with the name of a non-killer still alive in the building. The boxes cannot be damaged in any way save for the lighter in the center of the room that, when a consensus has been reached, will flick on just long enough to ignite a single box.]

[Kaoru is drumming his fingers against his leg when they all reconvene, looking more distraught than he has yet. he wastes no time in getting right down to business.]

...Well, now we know to target those on the vulnerable list. With that in mind, even though Gavin-san is a pretty target, I say we kill off Kouha. He's the largest vulnerable threat.

[He's looking even more ticked off this time than last.]

I couldn't agree more. Without him, they have far less of a fighting chance.

Let's hope his death is a painful one. [not that he particularly cares about the loss of three of their own on an emotional level, but there's a certain amount of camaraderie present. a loss for them feels like a loss for himself. Austria especially, who had come so close to victory only for it to backfire...]

...We'll have to tread more carefully outside of trials as well. Austria's arrogance lead to her own demise and Naho's inability to defend herself against the stronger of those idiots lead to hers. Luckily, my host was paranoid enough to take a sword from the weapons room with the intent to use it on other shadows, but you should think about providing your host with one, too.

Let's. [He returns to his usual manic grinning at that, before falling right back into a pout.]

My host would be useless with a sword--he spent the entire time hiding behind Harriet before trying to run. The most I would be able to get him to do is to hold is for appearances, but maybe that's enough.

Just keep an eye on the ones who are physically formidable. Ty Lee and Mai have their martial arts and Ty Lee has that technique of hers that she keeps going on about, Serena has those creatures... Ah, Yuyuko can fire bursts of magic that implode on contact, so watch out for her. Who else, who else... [it's a benefit of having a host people feel relatively at ease around; he sure knows a lot about their respective offense and defense now.]

The nations might be a pain on principle. Everyone else just seems like a regular human, though. Going in prepared should eliminate a significant number of issues.

Serena and Yuyuko sounds like the biggest threats. Feh... If only we could take them all out, but we're running out of time. We should have gotten to them sooner!

[But they couldn't have known it would have ended up like this. They'll just have to do what they can.]

There's only a few more weeks left. Let's do what the others couldn't.

With luck, one of them will drop to the good list by the next trial... I'm tired of playing it safe and getting rid of the useless ones who don't make any difference, but there's nothing we can do about it now. [it's rough, definitely, dealing with this outcome... but he also has confidence in both of them.

either way, upon those last words, Kaoru nods in agreement and then holds his hand out, almost as a cruel (but genuine) reflection of Naho's earlier friendship pact.]

The three of us, then. We'll learn from the mistakes of the others and we will succeed.

[He couldn't agree more. Playing it safe had always dampened the fun, but now knowing what would happen if they didn't almost ensured that they had no other choice.

Still, at that gesture he can't help but grin wickedly and follow suit.]
